I think we all learned something about wall pokemon today.
But Gyrados is presumably a better attacker then Defender(but I guess Vaporeon has good Special attack that people don't pay much attention to).

but Wish and Protect healing is why most people invest in vaporeon's defenses in the first place.

Yes Gyrados is a tank, but like you said he is not really the best choice for a complete wall.
How Vaporeon being compared to Gyrados? They are both defeated by electric attacks (vaporeon might survive) but other than that their weaknesses differ.

I know about the attack cut, its just that Gyrados wasn't made to be a wall, but mine seems to survive in the most hopeless situations.

I EV trained my Gyrados mostly in attack/speed/(and some in)HP, so The cause of his bulkiness is probably be The HP EVs + good defense IVs.

also the ability Intimidate just makes up for Gyrados's bad Base Defense.
