Interesting story behind this one--there were a lot of directions I could go with the whole "guilt trip Mario (and the audience) into considering the weight of all the enemies they squish," but the original comic was actually the second ending one.  Chris thought the goombas pulling an elaborate prank on Mario detracted from the humor of the original situation, and from that came the idea of multiple endings, each with their own twist--one sad, one a little more uplifting, and one that's just plain cynical.  Hope you enjoyed!
